Introduction
The Executive Office (TEO) Truth Recovery Programme (TRP) is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy notice explains how we use your personal information, and the ways in which we will safeguard that information.
It is designed to meet the requirements of the United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018), in terms of your individual right to be kept informed about how and why we collect, and use information, about you.
Who we are?
The role of TEO is to contribute to and oversee the co-ordination of Northern Ireland Executive policies and programmes to deliver a peaceful, fair, equal and prosperous society. Key objectives include driving investment and sustainable development, tackling disadvantage and promoting equality of opportunity, and the effective operations of the institutions of government in the delivery of a Programme for Government. A key policy area is Truth Recovery Programme (TRP). TRP was introduced following the publication of the Truth, Acknowledgement and Accountability Report regarding Mother and Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries and Workhouses in Northern Ireland.
The report contains 5 core recommendations which are underpinned by 77 sub-recommendations.
The implementation of the recommendations will be managed by TEO TRP and will involve collaboration with 5 other Government Departments.
Purpose – Why are you processing my personal information?
The Truth Recovery Programme require certain personal data in order to be able to fulfil request of the website user.
Each user, who chooses to complete a contact form, will be asked to supply information in 3 mandatory fields:
- First Name
- Last name
- Email Address
These fields will be sufficient for those who require registration for issue of newsletters, make a general enquiry and become a member of the Consultation Forum.

Personal information supplied will be managed in accordance with Data Protection legislation. In particular, the information will be kept for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which it has been obtained, in line with the Truth Recovery’s Retention and Disposal Schedule.
Type – What categories of personal information are you processing?
The personal data requested includes your first name, surname and email address.
The personal data received, via www.truthrecoverystrategy.com website, will not be shared with any external parties. The data will be processed in line with the request that the user has submitted and only for that reason. Data received will be passed to the relevant person/s within Truth Recovery Programme in order to fulfil the user’s request.
Legal – What is your lawful basis for collecting personal information?
In order to comply with UK data protection legislation, we must have a lawful basis for processing any personal information. In regard to processing information of potential new participants in Truth Recovery Programme Consultation Forum TEO TRP relies on the fact that: UKGDPR ARTICLE 6(1) (e) “processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest; and in regard to any sensitive (special) categories of personal information Article 9(2)(g) of the UK GDPR – processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest.

Data will be received from the website user only. TEO and/or Truth Recovery Programme will not undertake any searches in order to obtain personal information relating to any www.truthrecoverystrategy.com users.
Recipients – Do you share my personal information with anyone else?
Access to any personal information processed will be restricted to those persons who are involved in Truth Recovery Programme Consultation Forum only.
None of the personal information processed will be transferred to 3rd countries or international organisations.
Security and Retention – How we keep your personal information
The information you provide will be held in the Department’s official accredited records management systems, and will be protected from unauthorised or unlawful processing, and against accidental loss, destruction or damage. Access to any personal information shared via www.truthrecoverystrategy.com will be restricted to those Officials, within TRP, who are responsible for administering the Programme.
Only those Officials with a role involved with Consultation Forum will have permission to view and action the personal information in line with the user’s request.
It will be retained only for as long as is necessary; specifically, for seven years in accordance with the Executive Office’s retention and disposal schedule.
